The Savoy Hotel

12 March 2018

Wireless Infrastructure Group, founding partner of Iberia Small Cell Network along with Axión Wireless Infrastructure Group has launched one of the UK’s most advanced wireless communication technology solutions at one of the UK’s finest iconic hotels – The Savoy London.

The five star Hotel Savoy stands proudly on the north bank of the River Thames in London. It is one of the most eminent venues for London society. Managed by Fairmont Hotels and Resorts continues to offer luxury and elegance mixed with the latest digital innovation. Their strategy to achieve full mobile coverage throughout the hotel in addition to improving capacity in order to meet high expectations regarding multi-device usage was tantamount to achieving good guest satisfaction scores.

The hotel’s recent major restoration and high quality decoration has presented challenges at the time of installing a multi-carrier, multi-technology network infrastructure. WIG was appointed by The Savoy to design a single well-invested wireless solution that as sympathetic to the building architecture and supported voice and data services on behalf of all the UK mobile network operators.

Working with Telefonica O2 as anchor network operator, Wireless Infrastructure Group created the bespoke solution based on a Small Cell Distributed Network. The approved optimally efficient design is capable of supporting all user demands, covering 4G services as well as significantly enhancing 2G and 3G services within the hotel for the guests.

Based on a fibre optic backbone and utilising the latest non-intrusive multi-operator equipment components, the space saving Small Cell Distributed Network extends to cover all areas and floors of The Savoy hotel. The solution consists of the following key features: 177 strategically located antenna points, 3978 m (4 km) of discreetly installed fibre optic & coaxial cabling, 8 intelligent 4G compatible remote radio unit, a central equipment room hosting Small Cell Distributed Network control equipment & individual customer base stations.

The project has been funded and managed in all its process by Wireless Infrastructure Group.
The innovative technology is revolutionising the hotel environment: Improving the experience for hotel guests and attendees of events by using best in class/state of art mobile infrastructure; driving occupancy & improving ROI through investment in state of art mobile communication infrastructure; improving the marketability of the hotel & its facilities to businesses, event planners and guests who have increasingly high expectations regarding multi-device usage and a seamless connected experience.

WIG provides a fully managed service (24x7x365) with superior real time network monitoring, robust maintenance and around the clock service level commitments to ensure that network downtime is minimised and the Small Cell Distributed Network continues to perform at optimum levels.

Definitely, the Small Cell Distributed Network provides an efficient route to upgrade ensuring its continued suitability for hosting future mobile technologies and services on a cost effective basis.
